CLEAN has centered worker organizing to transform the car wash industry into a just working environment in Los Angeles. We support carwasherx standing up for their labor and immigration rights and improving health and safety protections. In 2013, CLEAN shifted into a worker center model to address the needs of the rapidly changing car wash industry. Mission
The mission of the CLEAN Carwash Worker Center is to support and empower car wash workers as they improve and create long-lasting change in their workplaces, lives, and communities.
About this Position
The CLEAN Carwash Worker Center is seeking an experienced, full-time Communications Coordinator committed to worker and immigrant justice to join our team. The communications coordinator will build support and visibility for CLEAN Carwash Workers Center’s members and is responsible for developing effective messaging and communication strategies to advance CLEAN’s mission. They will create promotional and informative materials and work on all media forms, including press releases, digital campaigns, print materials, social media, audio, video, and more.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Collaborate with the whole team to develop and implement communications strategies that promote CLEAN’s training and education, knowledge management, membership programs, and movement-building work
- Develop, coordinate, and execute an integrated communications strategy across multiple media platforms to engage and grow CLEAN’s community.
- Manage and support the creation of all print and electronic materials, including:
- Monthly newsletter for an external audience of members, partners, and supporters
- Annual report designed to promote CLEAN and our work to prospective donors
- Report templates, infographics, and other visual representations of CLEAN’s work
- Event Announcements, invitations, programs, and signage
- Maintain CLEAN’s social media presence, including content creation and curation
- Manage CLEAN’s website updates and changes with CLEAN’s external website vendor
- Coordinate and manage all communications projects (e.g., editorial calendar, campaigns, Google, branding initiatives, etc.), including setting timelines, assigning roles, facilitating meetings, and liaising with external service providers as needed
- Measure and report on the effectiveness of communications activities, engagement levels, and progress work with leadership to identify media opportunities and implement campaigns around key programs and issues
- Coordinate media requests and follow up while serving as a media contact as needed
- Prep CLEAN staff and members for media appearances and interviews
- Build relationships with media contacts
- Assist with other internal and external communications duties as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Demonstrated interest in CLEAN’s mission
- At least three years experience in nonprofit communications, implementing strategies, and developing online content
- Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal in English and Spanish
- Ability to respond adeptly to rapidly changing priorities and successfully manage multiple initiatives at once
- Strong interpersonal skills with an outgoing and open personal style
- Proficient with PowerBase, Canva, Squarespace, and Google Workspace; excellent writing, proofreading, desktop publishing, and verbal, visual/ graphic communications skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail and excellent time/task management skills
- Experience with social media management tools and design skills.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinker who considers the mission and vision of the organization in all their planning and actions.
- Good personal organization, time management, and planning skills.
- Dedicated team player with abilities to work with staff, board, and partner organizations.
- Effective listener who seeks and accepts feedback. Looks for opportunities to learn and grow in their work.
- Valid California driver’s license, automobile, and evidence of automobile liability insurance.
- Work a flexible schedule, some evenings and weekends as needed, and can work independently.
Preferred:
- Understanding of organizing strategies and experience and familiarity of issues affecting marginalized communities and workers in low-wage industries.
- Cumulative 3-5 year experience in two or more of the following: advocacy, worker or union organizing, direct action community organizing campaigns, journalism, public relations or advocacy communications, and project/program management.
Overview:
Job Title: Communications Coordinator
Compensation: $60,000 – $70,000 a year
Reports to: Organizing Director and Executive Director
Schedule: Full-time position
